History of the Russian Blue Cat

Hard to believe: Russian Blue Cat is a natural color. The first breeding animals come from Arkhangelsk; Sailors brought them to Britain in 1860. In 1875 the cats were presented for the first time at an exhibition. Already around 1900, the cats, now officially called Russian Blue, were popular both at the Tsar's court and in British aristocratic circles. Since 1937, the Russian Blue has had the status of an independent pedigree cat. By crossing Siamese , British Shorthair and European Shorthairsucceeded in preserving the breed, which was almost lost after the Second World War. Today there are three breed types: the English variant, the Siberian-Scandinavian type and the American Russian Blue, which is still not very common in Europe.
